Why bother with schema?

Schema is the structured-data layer Google reads to understand what your business actually is. Without it, Google has to guess from your page text. With it, you tell Google straight out: I am a Gas Safe registered plumber, I cover LS1 to LS17, my opening hours are these, I have 83 reviews at 4.9 stars, here are my services.

In 2026 this matters for two reasons. One, rich results - the bigger listings with stars and prices that take up four lines of the search page instead of one. Two, AI search. Perplexity, ChatGPT, Claude, Google's AI Overviews all read schema to decide who to cite when someone asks “best plumber in Leeds”. No schema, no citation.

Most UK trade websites have no schema at all. Most of the ones that do have it have a generic LocalBusiness block with no trade-specific identifiers and no services. Generating a proper one is a 10-minute job that nobody bothers with - so if you do, you stand out.

How to use the output

  1. Fill in the fields on the left. Trade picker first.
  2. The snippet on the right updates as you type. No save button.
  3. Click Copy snippet.
  4. Open your website builder's “custom HTML” or “header code” panel.
  5. Paste the snippet inside the <head> tag, save, and publish.
  6. Test it with Google's Rich Results Test. Paste your live URL, hit Test, and look for the green ticks.
